Case study · v0.2.2.2 Alpha · In active development

Second Stellar,
one system, 1,609 entries.

How we added Spanish to all 17 Unity Localization tables in Second Stellar, fixed a bundle identity collision and verified the result both in the data and inside the game.

One specific version, not automatic maintenanceThe game is in active development. This translation covers v0.2.2.2 Alpha and may fall behind as Pepperlog publishes new content; it is not a promise of automatic ongoing maintenance.

The game

A Starfarer RPG that is still growing.

Second Stellar is a pixel-art RPG/gacha by Pepperlog, with anime-style character portraits and a chapter-based narrative.

Players manage a party of “Starfarers” — Garridine, Eridani, Asphodene and others —, each with abilities shown in Spanish as “Armamento del Artífice,” “Tácticas en Tándem,” “Forja Mística” and “Refracción Umbral.” Progression includes a “Constellation” character ascension system, while the localized story moves from “Prólogo” into “Capítulo I: Al mundo fantasmal.”

Version 0.2.2.2 Alpha ships with seven official languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Simplified Chinese. Spanish is not one of them.

What was translated

17 tables, one localization system.

Unlike Little Witch in the Woods, the UI, narrative, abilities and items all live in the same system here: Unity Localization StringTable, Locale and SharedData objects on Addressables.

Structural parity

Buffs · 0 entries

The Buffs table is empty in the English original too. We built it the same way to preserve structural parity with all 17 English tables.

Technical pipeline

From the TypeTree to the Addressables catalog.

One text system does not make this a trivial patch: the tables, locale and catalog still have to retain a coherent structure and point to new binary identities.

Extraction and inspection

We inspected the assets with UnityPy using the complete, non-stripped TypeTree to recover the actual structure of every table and its shared data.

Low-level insertion

The StringTable, Locale and SharedData objects were inserted at low level with UnityPy, preserving the relationships Unity Localization expects across all 17 tables.

Catalog

A proprietary C#/.NET tool built on AddressablesTools patched catalog.bin to register the Spanish bundle and its keys. This is the same stack used for the Little Witch in the Woods case.

The real obstacle

The keys existed. The bundle identity collided.

The problem surfaced after installing the build and playing with es-ES active: the translation loaded, but four No translation found warnings proved there was still something to resolve.

The warnings named Eridani_Name, Perseus_Name, 1_2_Perseus and 1_4_Perseus. Investigation confirmed that all four keys existed in both English and the translation: this was not missing content.

The cause was binary identity. The Spanish bundle had been built by modifying the English bundle directly, inheriting the same internal CAB-... identifier and the same PathID values. Two bundles cannot load at once under that shared identity without colliding.

The fix was to assign a unique CAB to the Spanish bundle and regenerate its PathID values. We then verified that they were unique and disjoint from the en-US and pt-BR bundles, first with UnityPy and then with the catalog parser.

Final verification

Exact data and a real option inside the game.

The final pass combined binary checks, catalog validation and an installed, playable build.

8 localesAll 7 originals remained intact and es-ES was added. There were 7 before; none were modified.
1,609 of 1,609Entries verified byte by byte and as exact UTF-8 against the translated text, across all 17 tables.
405 → 443 keysThe 405 original catalog keys remained in the same order; all 17 Spanish tables point to the new bundle.
Spanish (Spain) (es-ES)The game's own language selector offers the new option, visible in the first screenshot.

Evidence

Real screenshots from v0.2.2.2 Alpha.

The images show the selector, narrative, dialogue and abilities inside the game; they also preserve one example that honestly marks the boundary of this version's coverage.

Second Stellar title screen (v0.2.2.2 Alpha) with the language menu open; "Spanish (Spain) (es-ES)" is selected among the eight languages in the list.
Language selector

The game's own language selector offering “Spanish (Spain) (es-ES)” as a real option.

The game's Story menu, "Prologue" chapter, with the full "First Contact" narrative summary in Spanish: the Starfarers meet a traveler named Hyde who accuses them of conspiring against a faction called Novum Athena.
Narrative

A complete narrative summary in Spanish in the Story menu — not just isolated UI, but long-form plot text too.

In-game dialogue from Garridine in Spanish: "¿Es hora de partir? Puede ser prudente revisar nuestro equipo y preparativos antes de embarcarnos en el próximo Voyage."
Dialogue

Spanish character dialogue during exploration.

Locked "Tácticas en Tándem" ability screen with its Spanish description ("Al intercambiar, activa un Recuerdo aleatorio. 12 segundos de enfriamiento.").
Ability

A translated ability description — one of the 124 entries in the Skills table verified byte by byte.

The innate "Armamento del Artífice" ability screen with its full description in Spanish.
Ability

Another translated ability, with its complete combat text in Spanish.

Asphodene's character screen; the general UI is in Spanish, but the equipped ability is still listed as "Astral Reflection" in English.
Version boundary

An honest view of the current state: this specific ability was still in English in this build — evidence that coverage applies to one version of the game, not “100% forever” while active development continues.

What we do not claim

Evidence of technical work, not an official patch.

The scope ends where the evidence for the verified version ends.

This page describes the technical work performed and what can be backed by evidence; it does not announce that the developer has an official Spanish patch.

Because the game remains in alpha and active development, future updates may add or change text and leave parts of the interface untranslated until they are reviewed. This same screenshot set keeps one real example: “Astral Reflection,” in screenshot 6, was still in English and awaiting translation in a build after the verified one. The work covers a specific version of the game, not “forever.”

Download

One installer, with a way back.

A single .exe installs the localization into your copy of the game.

The installer automatically backs up the originals before changing anything and can uninstall the translation to revert the game. The operator completed both an installation and a restoration in a test folder, then verified byte by byte that the restored files matched the originals.
